New Website + Giveaways!
This new site has been a labor of love over the past year and I'm so excited to finally get to share it with you!
Having a new website feels a lot like getting your hair done. I can't stop looking at it or flipping it around (figuratively speaking, obviously) and it makes me feel like a new woman - or a new business, in this particular case. I'm so head-over-heels in love with the new look, but I'm even more in love with the brand we created in the process of just "pretty-ing up" my old site.
I started slowly designing a new site back in early spring, but once I hit designer block and wedding season got busy, things fell to the way-side. It was probably for the best though, because coming back to it over the past few months really made me think inward about what I wanted my work to represent. I mean, I'm all for a pretty website full of pretty pictures, but I didn't want it to feel empty. I wanted to be able to share my heart behind what I do and why I do it - and it made me really slow down and intentionally put all those feelings into words, designs, and images.
At the beginning of 2017, I felt like my word of the year was going to be "authentic". I wanted to really capture the authenticity of relationships, personalities, and moments in my work. I wasn't really sure WHY I was so drawn to that idea, but as 2017 unfolded, I slowly but surely figured out why it means so much to me as a photographer, as a wife, and as a person.
I think we're drawn to authenticity because we crave the connection that comes with it. Being able to look at photos of ourselves and really feel like we're looking at ourselves not only on the outside, but how we feel on the inside makes us feel known and like we're good just the way we are. We even like to look at photos of complete strangers and actually feel like we feel their joy, their love, and their excitement. I'm convinced that this idea of preserving authentic moments comes from a desire to be remembered, and to be remembered as who we truly are. We want our husbands to remember us as the girl in the white dress, walking down the aisle to meet them on the day we said forever. We want our kids to remember what their childhood felt like - grass stained knees, tea parties, belly laughs, and just how loved by us they were from the moment they were welcomed into the world. We want our grandchildren to sift through photo albums going all the way back to when we were engaged and be able to feel like they were there - like they knew us before we knew them, and to be able to say that they know what a beautiful love story their history stems from. From our loved ones' point of view - they want to remember us just as authentically. Photographs are one of our last tangible pieces of someone, when all is said and done. Being able to look at those images and feel like you can hear their laugh or feel their embrace makes a snapshot become a treasure.
My word of the year has slowly been refined from "authentic" to "legacy", though I truly think it's impossible to have the latter without the former. Being able to photograph and preserve you or a moment or a feeling in it's truest form is my job's greatest honor. Couples come together on wedding days - from two completely unique histories - and begin their own together. But your wedding day is just the beginning of your story together. In years to come, you'll buy a house, then you'll make it a home, you might have kids, you'll go on wonderful adventures, you'll have hard times, and you'll have even better times to make up for it. Photos help us preserve this wonderful life we live and the way it shapes us year by year, and it's such a joy to hand a couple these tangible, saved moments.
I've been really focused on and loving the idea of legacy and heirlooms throughout this design/re-branding process, which is why I've decided to giveaway a few really cool products that I LOVE and believe really embrace those sentiments. I'll be sharing giveaway information on my instagram daily - so be sure you're following along @kylienoellephotography to find out how to enter and what you can win! :)
Thanks so much for popping by to see the new look! Feel free to cruise around and explore a little bit - I hope you love it as much as I do :) Also - I have to give the biggest thank you ever to my sweet, selfless, adorably nerdy, and hard-working husband for making all my website dreams come true. Thank you for the endless hours you've put into making my designs come to life, listening to a few of my mini-meltdown rants, and still loving me unconditionally at the end of it. The dedication you put into everything you do (especially during this incredibly busy season of life) is one of your most endearing qualities and I love the heck out of you and the way you love people. You're my favorite.
